Tips for Small – Space Living
Here in Southern California we know that small spaces are the norm when it comes to houses or apartments in highly desirable areas, especially those with a beach view! Downsized living spaces are also becoming more popular with college grads and empty nesters. However, living in a small space can be tough, especially when it comes to decorating, privacy, and storage. Check out a few of The Cesi Pagano Team’s tips for small space living.
Maximize your windows
Make sure your drape your windows in a way that allows for maximum light. The secret to making your small space feel bigger is light. If your home doesn’t have an abundance of natural light, brighten things up with lighting fixtures.
Choose neutrals with pops of color
Once again, the key to making your place feel bigger is light. Dark walls, furniture, or window treatments can make your already small home feel even smaller. Instead go for light, neutral colors and add pops of colors here and there with pillows, pictures, candles, etc.
Use mirrors
Mirrors are a nice little trick to make any space feel larger and brighter. Mirrors also double as wall art and can be used practically anywhere in your house.
Avoid clutter
Nothing cramps up a house more than clutter. Don’t accumulate too much stuff because you’ll have nowhere to store it. Only keep things that are necessary or add beauty and/or functionality to your home.
Use functional furniture
A daybed can be a couch by day and a bed by night, same for a pull-out couch or futon. Coffee tables and end tables offer plenty of hidden storage as well.
Hidden storage
Get creative with storage! Under the bed is always a great go-to storage spot, skirted tables can hide plenty of extras, as well as ottomans, and well organized closets. You can also find creative storage furniture options and storage bins at storesuch as The Container Store.
