Moving Mistakes You Don’t Want To Make
Moving is already a stressful time, so make sure you make it less stressful by avoiding these moving mistakes you don’t want to make!
Waiting Until the Last Minute
Not giving yourself enough time is one of the most critical mistakes you can make during a move. Rushing through a move leaves room for mistakes to be made and possible injuries (like lifting too much, over packing a box etc.). Give yourself at least 2 months to plan out your move. Do a little at a time so when it’s moving day, everything is organized and ready to go.
Not Asking for Help
Moving is not a one person job. Organizing, packing, and moving boxes takes a lot of time and effort. You can’t do it all by yourself. Ask a few friends or family members over to help you get everything packed up and moved (unless you’re hiring a moving company). Thank them by ordering a few pizzas and drinks! You’ll save time…and your back!
Packing Every Item in Your Home
Is it essential that you pack that dress that went out of style in 1995? How about Aunt Mae’s casserole dish that you hide in the back of your kitchen cupboard? You don’t need to pack everything! Moving gives you the perfect opportunity to take an inventory of what you do and don’t need. Make an effort to reduce your belongings by donating or selling what you no longer want or need.
Poor Organization
Poor organization, from planning to packing, can cause you to spend more money and time than is necessary. Get organized as early as possible. Creating a moving binder or moving checklist can help alleviate your stress and save you time and money. Take an inventory of your belongings, label all boxes clearly (especially if they’re fragile), maintain constant contact with your moving company (or friends), and plan out your moving trip (hotels, snacks, meals etc.). The goal is to make your move as simple and stress-free as possible!
