Finding a House that Accompanies your Boat
Here in Southern California we are blessed to have the ocean as our backyard. With many boat enthusiasts living in Southern California, our team often has the task of not only finding a home for our clients, but a home for their boat as well! So what are the key factors for smooth sailing when finding a house that accompanies your boat?
Dock Size & Depth
It is essential that you tell you real estate agent all the information regarding your boat so you’ll only be shown properties that fit your needs. Give the correct measurements to insure that you won’t be let down when you find a house that you love to only find out that your cherished boat won’t fit.
Boat Traffic
Depending on what area of Southern California you are looking in, there might be a lot of boat traffic and congestion which could result in you having to have a boat lift which can easily add thousands to your price tag. Be sure to scope out the potential property at different times of the day (and especially weekends when everyone is out and about) and pay close attention to the amount of traffic in the water.
Ocean Access and Bridges
This once again comes down to disclosing all information to your real estate agent. If you are looking for quick access to the ocean, be sure to tell your agent that you are not interested in a long commute through waterways to gain access to the open ocean. Also make sure to review a navigational map with your agent to ensure that you both fully understand the infrastructure (especially fixed bridges) and waterways which could pose an issue if your boat is too large to pass. Also be sure to understand the schedule of moveable bridges. Some bridges may not open at certain times of the day, which could be a hindrance to your schedule.
