Creating a Home Office Space
Nowadays the line between working and living in our homes is less distinct. More and more people want to have an office space in their home whether it’s for running a business, an occasional work-from-home day, or just a space for paying bills and organizing schedules. So where do you start when it comes to creating a home office space that reflects the design and comfort of the rest of your home and still makes for a practical work area? The Cesi Pagano team has your answers!
Location, Location, Location
Finding the correct space to house your home office can be a challenge. Be sure you choose a space that encourages productivity. Do you work best in the midst of activity, or should your office be tucked away in a quiet space? Do you have to monitor your children simultaneously or is your sole focus work? This will ultimately determine where your office should be located.
If you’re lucky enough to have a spare room, it’s easy to create a home office space there. However, most times you will need to borrow space from an existing room. If you have to do so, be sure that your office area reflects the style of the rest of your home. The most common choices for a shared-room office space are in the corners of a kitchen or family room.
Designing your Work Space
The basic elements of designing a smart workspace include:
- Adequate Lighting: Make sure your office has plenty of light to cut down on eye strain and headaches. Keep a small lamp on your desk for task lighting.
- Sufficient Storage: Keep clutter to a minimum. Hang floating shelves on the walls to get papers and office equipment off the desk, and use vertical file folders on the desk to keep important papers within arm’s reach.
- Functionality: Your desk, shelves, and storage should serve you, not the other way around. Consider your workflow and what items you need at your fingertips before buying furniture
- Comfort: You spend hours parked in your office chair. Make sure to choose a comfortable one with an adjustable seat and armrests to protect your spine and help reduce aches and injuries.
Motivate & Inspire
Your home office shouldn’t just be 100% work. It needs to be a combination of both home and work. Hang a beautiful piece of framed art, put a special photo on your desk, hang some of your children’s artwork, or keep a travel brochure nearby. All this items can inspire you to work harder or remind you that your hard work is worth it for your loved ones.
