Did you know that nearly 44% of homebuyers have regrets about their home? Buying a house is often the biggest purchase a person will ever make, so it’s natural that many will experience some sort of  buyer’s remorse. So what can you do before you buy a home to avoid real estate regret? We’ve got some answers below.

Scope out the home and neighborhood at night 

When the day draws to an end, and everyone is back home for the night, what do you see? Is the street packed with parked cars? Does that street light shine directly into the bedroom of the home you’re eyeing? Be sure to view the home you are interested at varying times of the day to make sure it’s the right one for you.

Take into account the commute 

Does traffic make it difficult for you to get to work on time? Be sure to test the morning and evening commute between your potential home and your job.

Homeowner’s Association rules 

Be sure to review the HOA’s conditions, covenants, and restrictions to see what they allow and don’t allow homeowners to do with their property. Most HOA’s will have some wiggle room for certain things, but make sure you can deal with abiding by all their rules before you purchase a home in that neighborhood.

Special Inspections 

If the home you are looking at buying includes specialty items such as a septic tank, solar panels, or a pool, you should consider getting them assessed by specialists who will go beyond a general inspection before purchasing the home. It’s always better to cough up the money now instead of waiting for a huge problem to happen, costing you even more.
