San Clemente Pier
The pier in San Clemente is a local landmark and well worth a visit. With gorgeous views of the coastline, a delicious seafood restaurant and bar (Fisherman’s), a snack shack, and the perfect place to cast your line for fishing, this is the place to be. Enjoy an evening strolling down the pier and watching the sunset. Or bring a picnic and watch the surfers battle the waves while taking in the stunning views. You won’t be disappointed.
San Clemente State Beach
If you’re looking for a terrific, not-too-crowded beach with road access, San Clemente State Beach is the beach for you. With ample space, soft sand, awesome waves, and the pier close by for snacks and bathroom runs, you’ll be set. If you have young kids this may not be the beach for you since the shore break is pretty hard and tough. But if you’re a surfer, you’re in luck. San Clemente State Beach is one of the only spots in Southern California that allows hardboard surfing 24/7. Parking runs about $2 an hour and the Amtrak train station served by Pacific Surfliner is just steps away from the sandy beach if you’re further out of town and don’t feel like driving.
San Clemente Beach Trail
Hugging one of the most picturesque shorelines in Southern California, the San Clemente Beach Trail is one of the best trails around. The trail lets you enjoy the ocean views and beaches of San Clemente without having to tread through the sand. The trail itself is technically a rail-with-trail, as it shares the corridor with an active Amtrak line with service between Los Angeles and San Diego. The trail runs for 2.3 miles and is open to walkers, joggers, bikers, and dogs as well. The trail can get pretty crowded on the weekends, so plan accordingly.
Casa Romantica Cultural Center & Gardens
As the former home of the founder of the City of San Clemente, Casa Romantica is a non-profit organization that provides programs for all ages in arts, music, history, horticulture and literature. This Spanish-inspired villa has incredible architectural detail and breathtaking views of the Pacific ocean. Open as a museum, cultural center, and event center, Casa Romantica often features exhibitions of local artists, musicians, and even dancers, both adult and student. They also feature events like yoga, movie screenings, and much more. And don’t forget about the magical gardens! Casa Romantica is also is a great venue for anyone considering a wedding or large fundraiser near the ocean.
