The Wedge
You can’t come to the city of Newport Beach and not actually go to the beach! The Wedge is a hot spot for powerful and awesome surf. Because of the potential for 30-feet waves, the Wedge is more a place to admire than to engage. But nonetheless, the Wedge is a must-see when you go to Newport Beach. Relax and listen to the crash of the waves while you watch seasoned surfers take on the waves. Make sure you bring your camera as well to catch the impressive sets. If you get tired of watching the surf, you can take a stroll and admire the luxurious oceanfront homes. The Wedge also has some of the best sunsets around. So if you have time, stick around and watch as the sun melts into the ocean.
**If you come between May 1 and Oct. 31, you will notice that the raised black ball flag, outlawing the use of any type of board at the Wedge between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Bodysurfing only, no bodyboards, surfboards, or skimboards).
