Temperatures are warming up all across Southern California; a tell-tale sign that summer is just around the corner. In order to make the most of your summer, get a head start on a few simple chores that, done in advance, will make your summer a breeze! Check out our 5 ways to prepare your home for summer list below.
1. Finally Say Goodbye to Winter
Quick and easy seasonal interior updates are key to making your home “summer ready.” Update your space with lighter, brighter accessories. Remove anything that brings out heat like fire logs, heavy rugs, heaters, and thick blankets. Replace your candles with fresh cut flowers or air freshener wall plugs. As soon as you do this, winter will be out of sight and out of mind.
2. Revive Your Airflow
In order to ensure a cool summer, as well as a lower energy bill, there are a few simple airflow tasks you can tackle now. First, replace your air conditioner’s filter or have your central air unit professionally checked. Second, turn your ceiling fan to a counter-clockwise position (blades tilted upwards as they spin) in order to push air downward and create a stronger draft.
3. Prep Your BBQ
Summer is the most popular time for cookouts. Make sure you’re safe by giving your barbecue a deep clean. Disconnect the gas, disassemble the barbecue from roof to tray, and clean with warm, soapy water. Tackle the grill separately with a hard-wire brush. Once you’ve finished cleaning, heat up the barbecue and let it run on high for 5 to 10 minutes to dry everything out. Finally, wipe the grates with a thin layer of coconut oil to limit rust and create a nonstick surface.
4. Switch the Shed
Say goodbye to your winter gear and bring forward your summer gear. Make your summer gear/supplies easily accessible by having them upfront and organized. This includes summer sports gear, hoses, sprinklers, the lawnmower, garden tools, fertilizer, pool toys, etc.
5. Stock Up for Summer
Fill your medicine cabinet with summer essentials like sun block, aloe, and bug spray. In your linen closet, store clean beach towels and picnic blankets. In your garage, stock up with backyard sports items like croquet or badminton, and fun pool toys as well.
