Show Your Home Some Love
Who said February is just for showing the people you care about some love? Your home could use some love too! Especially after it was most likely neglected during the winter and holiday season. Do not feel guilty if you have been busy and you are now realizing that you put your home on the back burner for the last few months. As the weather starts to change and the days become longer, it is the perfect time to give your home a little extra love this February.
Here are five things you can do as a homeowner to show your home the love it has been lacking.
- Yard Maintenance.
This is a big one this time of year. You more than likely have not spent much time on yard maintenance during the colder months. But, as the weather improves it is time to go outside! Take a step back from your home and see what catches your eye first and start there. Do your trees or bushes need trimming? Could your yard benefit from some fresh bark or dirt? As the days get drier it is a perfect time to rake up those leaves, grab the fallen tree limbs, and give your grass a good mow.
- Clean Those Filters.
Your filters and vents have been working overtime in your heaters to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. While you are at it you may as well clean out your air conditioning, dryers, fans, etc. as well. Doing this not only benefits the smell and dust level in the home, but it also prevents potential fires or clogging. Doing routine maintenance on these items can prolong the life of the units and can save you more in the long run.
- Re-grout.
In the bathtubs, showers, backsplash, and tile. Look around your bathrooms to see if they are giving off a drabby look. The easiest thing you can do to give it a more refreshed look is re-grouting. Some may only need a tough deep clean, but if there is any cracking, peeling or mildew it is a good sign it is time to replace.
- Fill Cracks.
With the weather still being chilly out, it is a great time to walk around your home and see if you notice a cold breeze around any of your windows. Resealing the cracks around your windows can keep in the warmth, while also saving you money on your heating bill. Also, look at filling in the cracks in your patio, driveway, garage floors, etc.
- Deep Clean Appliances.
Do you notice your clothes do not seem to be getting as clean as they used to be? Maybe they are holding a mildew smell or you notice stains are not being lifted like they used to. If so, it is time to give it a deep clean. The same goes for your dishwasher. If you notice your dishes are not coming out sparkling clean anymore, it is time to give it a thorough cleaning.
Although taking care of a home is not always an easy task, it is rewarding to see how your home can benefit from a little extra love.
