Essential Items You Need To Be Successful
It is that time of year again when summer starts winding down, and fall begins rolling in. This also marks the beginning of the school year. While this is an exciting time, it usually also brings a rush of overwhelming feelings with it. It is back to meal prepping, rushing out of the house on time, and remembering to sign that field trip form, for most parents. Let’s be honest, it is a little chaotic. To make the return of school go more smoothly, you should start preparing now by organizing and purchasing the essentials items you need to be successful.
- Time Management.
The start of school means the start of establishing new routines. Managing school schedules, work schedules, sports schedules, and life schedules is a LOT to juggle. To help you stay on track you should consider investing in a large whiteboard and calendar. Put them up where everyone in the house can see them regularly, such as by the front door or in the kitchen. Write down as much as possible and color coordinate each family member’s jobs. This will help make managing the shift into new schedules and routines much smoother.
- Establish an entry area.
You remember how it goes, the kids come home from school and instantly throw their backpacks, coats, and shoes on the ground in front of the door. Important school notices get lost and it quickly becomes an overwhelming mess. By establishing an entry area where kids have a designated place to put their school items when they get home can make this a more pleasant experience. Make sure you also have a place that kids put any important documents like field trip slips or report cards so that these don’t get lost. This is also a great space to place keys or lunch money that the children might need for school the next morning.
- Create a homework space.
One of the most important ways to prepare for the school year is to establish a homework space in your home. This spot should be comfortable with a table and chair and free from distractions. Just clearing off a space on your dining room table is not going to do anyone any good. Designating a spot in the home that is just for homework will encourage learning and help to diminish some of the “get back on task” arguments.
- Stock up on healthy foods.
Preparing lunches is one of the most time-consuming tasks for parents with school-aged children. Make this task easy on yourself by stocking up on some quick and simple lunch options. Fruits, vegetables, and individually wrapped snacks like string cheese or yogurts make meal prepping a breeze. It also helps with after-school snacks if there are easy grab-and-go options for the kiddos.
With back-to-school shopping, establishing new routines, and trying to remember your math skills, this time can easily become overwhelming. Just remember, with a little prep work and putting a few systems into place, this school year could be your smoothest yet!
