Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to start thinking about Christmas! One of our favorite things to do during this season is decorate. And there is no better place to start with your holiday décor than the fireplace mantle. There is something about having a beautifully decorated mantle that just puts us in the Christmas spirit. Depending on your style, there are many different directions that you can go with your décor this holiday season.
Here are a few different suggestions on how to decorate your fireplace mantle this Christmas.
1. Traditional.
The first choice in decorating your home for Christmas is going traditional. A good place to start is with one focal piece above the fireplace. This could be either a large family holiday photo, a traditional piece of Christmas artwork, or a decorative wreath. Once your focal point is up, then you want to go out from there. Decorate in traditional colors such as reds, greens, and silvers. Make sure to drape garland wrapped in white Christmas lights over the mantle as well to make it pop. With traditional Christmas décor it would also make sense to have a ceramic scene with houses, trees, and people. To finish it off, hanging stockings from hooks over the fireplace is a must.
2. Rustic.
Rustic décor has become a very popular décor trend in the last few years. The same way that you would start with a traditional fireplace mantle is how you should start a rustic one as well, with a focal point. For your rustic focal point, go with a wooden piece or some deer antlers. Instead of the classic red and green, go with cream. Incorporate reclaimed or stained wood in the décor. Hammered metal makes for a great accent as well. For the rest of the mantle, use pinecones or Evergreen trees to round out the rustic vibe. If you want to add stockings still so that Santa can fill them, stick with ones that have an outdoor feel. Look for stockings that are a mix of cream and green to keep with the theme.
3. Whimsical.
Fun and whimsical is also another way to go that isn’t often thought about when thinking about Christmas décor. With these theme you can really make it your own. Mix and match décor, go with unusual colors, have fun with it! Again, start with a focal piece. This could be a wreath with different color ball ornaments hanging all around it or a family of Christmas gnomes! Instead of the traditional garland, go with colorful puff balls stringed across the mantle. Incorporate some colorful Christmas lights to make it bright and cheery. Don’t forget some extra long, quirky stockings to really bring the whole whimsical theme together.
No matter what theme you go with for your fireplace mantle, we hope that you have a holiday season filled with love and light!
