Normally we would be posting our monthly blog about great events happening in Orange County, but this coming month we felt it was better to look towards what we can all do at home. Let’s make some events of our own while we all stay in and help win this episode of American History together!
Soak up some sun!
Open the blinds – all of them. Light is the cheapest and most effective mood changer you can find. It’s amazing at what a little sun can do for the soul.
Relax!
At-home Spa Day. You might be surprised at the at-home items you already have that are perfect for this wonderfully relaxing activity!!!
Always remember, when you want to relax, that the library can check out books virtually as well.
Learn!
Find some great, and occasionally free, exercise classes online.
For that matter, why not a cooking class, or art class, or a course through an Ivy League School…
So many people are opening up their knowledge for us, take advantage while you can!!!
Take a virtual museum tour. Several amazing museums throughout the country and the world offer “virtual” tours. You can choose from the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, the Boston Children’s Museum, the Miami Children’s Museum, or even visit the Louvre in Paris or even the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican in Rome. These are just a few examples of the many that have opened up recently!!! Go explore!
On this note – you can also check out zoos, as a large number of zoos across the county are doing live stream videos and lessons daily.
Play!
Virtual dinner party. From games you can play virtually to dining ideas, why not host a dinner party tonight?!?
Backyard – or even porch – camping? Why not spend some time outdoors, even if you’re still staying home?
Longing to lounge on a beach in Mexico but lacking the funds? Make a playlist full of mariachi and marimba music and gather the ingredients for fish tacos. Whip up some margaritas for the grown-ups and serve Jarritos to the kids to wash the tacos down. Pick a new location and repeat!
Plan a day or even an entire weekend of friendly competition. This can be expended virtually and can be anything from board games to jumping jack challenges!
Love cooking competition shows like Iron Chef and Chopped? Bring the challenge home, but make it collaborative! Video chat with a few friends and see who makes it best!
Host your own film festival. Pick a theme, allow each family member to pick a movie, then get comfortable for a day of film watching. If you really want to mix it up – hang a sheet outside and project the movie in your backyard!
Have a picnic. Make a show of it – do a picnic as you would see in an old-style cartoon! Lay down a blanket and unpack the basket of goodies. There’s nothing more whimsical and wonderful than a picnic on a perfect weather day. If you don’t feel like crafting a full charcuterie board with an array of cheeses, meats, jams, and crackers, you can make some quick PB and J or even pick up some fried chicken. Don’t forget to bring a good book.
