If you are new to the Southern California area, it can be a bit overwhelming narrowing down your options on things to do and places to explore in one day. The Cesi Pagano Team has compiled a list of must-see places and activities for each city in Southern California. Today we are focusing on a day in Dana Point.
With its seaside charm and stunning views, it’s no wonder why Dana Point is one of Orange County’s most popular destinations. Dana Point boasts incredible beaches, cute shops, delicious restaurants, and great tours for the whole family to enjoy.
Stop 1: Dana Point Harbor
Dana Point Harbor is not only a beautiful harbor, it’s a lively community filled with activities, boutiques, and restaurants. At the harbor, you can enjoy activities such as whale watching tours, personal watercraft rentals, coastal cruise tours, fishing excursions, and charter services. We suggest whale watching tours! With migrating Gray Whales from November through April and Blue whales visiting from May through November you can see whales nearly all year long. Groupon often runs deals for tours, so check there first. If not, check out danawharf.com for tour times and tickets.
Stop 2: Doheny State Beach
With nearly one million visitors per year, Doheny State Beach is one of California’s most popular state beaches. Located approximately one mile north of I-5, Doheny State Beach is easy to get to. The beach has a surfing beach at its northern end and a five-acre lawn with picnic facilities and volleyball courts. The southern end of the state beach has campgrounds, with some of the campsites only steps away from the beach. It’s a great place to spend either a day or a nice long weekend.

Stop 3: Chart House Restaurant
Seated on top of the bluffs overlooking Dana Point Harbor, the Chart House restaurant claims one of the best views in Dana Point! On a clear day, you can see 50 miles down the Southern California coast all the way to La Jolla. Not only are the views great, but the seafood and steakhouse fare is incredible. Be sure to make a reservation, and call a babysitter, as this is a higher-end, less kid-friendly restaurant. Chart House.com
There are many other amazing stops in Dana Point that you can’t miss! But be sure to check out these three stops, you won’t regret it!
