November is the month of being thankful. While practicing daily gratitude year round is a great idea to living a happy life, now is a great time to start forming the habit. Practicing gratitude does not have to be hard or time consuming, there are no right or wrong ways to express how grateful you are.
Here are five simple ways to show gratitude this holiday season.
1. Write thank you cards.
Writing a thank you card is one of the simplest ways to show you appreciate someone. Everyone loves getting handwritten cards, whether in the mail, dropped off, or hand delivered. The simple act of writing down why you are grateful to someone shows that you put time and effort in. A little goes a long way.
2. Tell people you appreciate them.
You do not need to give a full blown, heartfelt speech to let someone know that you appreciate them. Just a simple text or a quick phone call can really brighten someone’s day. Letting those that are important to you know that they are in your thoughts is one of the simplest ways to show gratitude.
3. Send flowers.
One of the more traditional ways to show your gratitude for someone is to send flowers. This does not have to be some expensive grand gesture. A small bouquet or hand-picked wildflowers are enough to let someone important know that you are thinking about them and are grateful to have them in your life.
4. Do something nice.
If you want to show your gratitude for your spouse, doing a chore that you know they do not enjoy is a great option. Help out by doing the dishes or taking out is a nice gesture to let them know that you appreciate them. Cooking a favorite dinner recipe of your spouse or friend is also a simple way to show your gratitude towards them.
5. Turn off the technology.
In this day and age, turning off technology is one of the greatest gestures to show how much you appreciate the time of those around you. We are constantly distracted by screens and noise, so put down your phone and turn off the television. When you are with people that are important to you, make sure that you show them by giving them your undivided attention.
Bonus: Help your kids show gratitude.
Now is a great time to teach your kids how to show gratitude. One way to do this is by doing a gratitude craft. Take Fall colored sheets of construction paper and draw leaves on them. Have the kids cut out the leaves and on each one help them write something that they are grateful for. Then put a small hole at the top of the leaf and string them up. This makes for great holiday décor as well as a daily reminder of all the things they have to be grateful for.
